SELFISHNESS

Are you selfish? One way you can tell is if I ask you to give up something for another. When I ask you to give of your time or resources, do you respond with a generous heart? Or do you tend to hoard what I have so generously bestowed upon you?

Do you respond like a small child who is asked to share? If so, then you are still immature in My Kingdom ways. Hold things lightly. Whether I ask you to do something for another or give something up, do it with a gracious spirit. Do not let your left hand know what your right is doing. In other words, don’t make a production of what you have given up, for that is still selfishness.

Instead, acknowledge that this area needs to be brought before Me and laid down at the foot of the Cross. Give it to Me and then ask for grace. Follow the example of Jesus, your Master, and lay down your life for others.

2 Timothy 3:2-4 Living Bible (TLB)

2 For people will love only themselves and their money; they will be proud and boastful, sneering at God, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful to them, and thoroughly bad. 3 They will be hardheaded and never give in to others; they will be constant liars and troublemakers and will think nothing of immorality. They will be rough and cruel, and sneer at those who try to be good. 4 They will betray their friends; they will be hotheaded, puffed up with pride, and prefer good times to worshiping God.

Philippians 2:3-4 Amplified Bible (AMP)

3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves. 4 Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

James 3:16 Amplified Bible (AMP)

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder [unrest, rebellion] and every evil thing and morally degrading practice.
