Hunger and thirst are simple concepts to understand. Each is an innate need that you cannot escape, no matter how hard you may try. You have to eat. You have to drink. These physical realities can be compared to the spiritual world of which you belong. You are body, soul and spirit. Therefore, you must take care of each in order to be whole. You are a spirit with a soul living in a physical body. Just like it is critical to feed your physical body, it is critical to feed your spirit and soul with manna from heaven and living waters from the river of God. Your life is hidden in Christ, so you must live as if He is your very life and breath.
Most people would not think of going a day without eating or drinking. How much more should you desire spiritual nourishment? Pray to Me to give you a greater hunger and desire for more of Me. This is why the discipline of fasting is so important; to create intimacy and desire for more of My presence. Only the truly desperate understand this. They will do whatever is necessary to know Me. Indeed, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Therefore, ask Me for grace, for I long for you to know Me and taste and see that I am good!
