DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD

Writer's picture: Bev CooperBev Cooper

How will you learn to overcome without discipline? I have provided everything you need, but it is up to you to apply the truths and principles found in My word. It is up to you to ask for My grace each and every day.

If you ask Me, I will tell you what you need to do in each circumstance that you face. It may be to learn thankfulness in the midst of your trial. Or learning to give when you have needs. It may be to pray for another's healing when you are sick. It may be learning to forgive when there is no repentance on the other person’s part. Or learning to love a difficult person and show them My mercy.

Many of My children do not want to run the race although they do want the prize. There are many prizes given at the end of the race, but only those willing to submit to My discipline will receive them. The rewards are given to the overcomers. If only you could see the prizes, you would not look back. Faith requires looking ahead to Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith.

Therefore, run well, My child, for you are almost home. The finish line is just ahead and many behind you and ahead of you are cheering you on! Let your goal be to hear My words, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter now into the joy of your master."

Hebrews 12:4-11 New Century Version (NCV)

4 You are struggling against sin, but your struggles have not yet caused you to be killed.

5 You have forgotten the encouraging words that call you his children:

“My child, don’t think the Lord’s discipline is worth nothing, and don’t stop trying when he corrects you.

6 The Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as his child.”

7 So hold on through your sufferings, because they are like a father’s discipline. God is treating you as children. All children are disciplined by their fathers. 8 If you are never disciplined (and every child must be disciplined), you are not true children. 9 We have all had fathers here on earth who disciplined us, and we respected them. So it is even more important that we accept discipline from the Father of our spirits so we will have life. 10 Our fathers on earth disciplined us for a short time in the way they thought was best. But God disciplines us to help us, so we can become holy as he is. 11 We do not enjoy being disciplined. It is painful at the time, but later, after we have learned from it, we have peace, because we start living in the right way.

Proverbs 3:11-12 The Passion Translation (TPT)

11 My child, when the Lord God speaks to you, never take his words lightly, and never be upset when he corrects you.

12 For the Father’s discipline comes only from his passionate love and pleasure for you. Even when it seems like his correction is harsh, it’s still better than any father on earth gives to his child.
